But seven years before that, in 1893, the newly formed LGU held its first Ladies' British Open Amateur Championship - and the winner of that and the next two championships, was a Gloucestershire girl, Lady Margaret Scott.
Quite a beginning. And over the years our County Members have brought us national honour both as players and 'management'.... like Ruth Porter, Beverly Huke, Kitrina Douglas, Sue Shapcott, Caroline Hall, Peggy Reece and Pat Skelton, to name but a few... |

More recently our own Jenny Clink was Chairman of ELGA in 2005.
Before that Jenny, a member of Lilley Brook, was one of the South West's Representatives on the ELGA Executive and for three years she was manager of England's successful team at the Girls' Home Internationals and then took the English Girls to the European Masters in Austria.
She captained the ELGA teams in 2006 and 2007, winning Bronze European Medals with the U21 team in 2006 and with the Ladies' Team in 2007.
She has also captained Gloucestershire for two years leading them to the County Finals in 2001. In 2006 she was made an honorary member of the County. |
