Notes to Events:
STABLEFORDS/CARD MARKING DAYS: Organiser Olive French
There will be five GGG stablefords/card marking days during the 2010 playing season. These give you an opportunity for regular competition with other girl golfers.
There are three competitions on each occasion:
- 18 holes stableford for those with CONGU handicaps of 36 or less
- 18 holes stableford for those with club handicaps of 37 – 54 (if you are not a club member we can give you a handicap for these competitions)
- 9 holes card marking competition for those without handicaps who are ready to start marking cards.
There will be gross and nett prizes. The dates are on the Fixture List on the back page of this Information Pack. You will find an entry form on page 9 below, or contact Olive French[2].
MATCHES:Organiser Di Valentine
GGG teams play matches against teams from neighbouring counties. The matches are fun to play in and give you experience of match play golf.
The GGG 1st team play a round robin tournament with the other counties in the South West of England in August.
Other matches include some girls with higher handicaps. As many girls as possible will be given the opportunity to play in one or more of these.
For those who are eligible, a sheet asking you whether you are available for the 2010 matches is included on page 10 below. Teams are selected from those who say Yes, but please remember that if you have said Yes for a match and then find that you will not be able to play, you must notify Di Valentine immediately,
GLOUCESTERSHIRE GIRLS’ COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP: Organiser Marion Jackson
This is our most prestigious event and is open to all girls with a CONGU handicap of 36 or less. There are competitions for the Gross Championship cup, the Nett Championship trophy, and stableford prizes, so girls of all levels of handicaps have plenty to play for.
GIRLS WITHOUT HANDICAPS : Beginners and Improvers
GGG aims to encourage and support those of you who are just starting to play golf, and to give you the opportunity to have some fun with other girl golfers.
When you first begin to play golf, you will probably be having lessons and hitting golf balls on a practice ground. Then comes your first game on a golf course with family or friends, or with other juniors. At this point, you can enjoy playing golf with other girls of your own age and standard by coming to some GGG events.
Gaining Handicaps
As you begin to improve, you will want to get a handicap. The junior organiser at your golf club will tell you how to go about this when your golf is ready.
To get a handicap you need to play 9 or 18 holes of golf with someone who already has a handicap, so that they can mark a card for you. They will write down every shot you take on every hole, (including any air shots!).
To begin with you may be able to obtain a club handicap, which can be awarded for cards marked over 9 or 18 holes, Ask about your club’s policy, club handicaps can be from 37 – 54. Then, as you improve, you will move on to a full CONGU handicap of 36 or less.
Girls without handicaps who are ready to mark cards on a golf course can enter the 6 or 9 hole Card Marking competition at the GGG stablefords[1].
Once you have a club handicap of 54 or less, you can enter the GGG stablefords.
Not a member of a golf club? Whether you are a member of a golf club or not, you are welcome to come to the GGG stableford and card marking competitions.
