Stableford Card Marking Days: Organiser Olive French
There will be five GGG stablefords/card marking days during the 2011 playing season. These give you an opportunity for regular competition with other girl golfers.
There are three competitions on each occasion:
§ 18 holes stableford for those with CONGU handicaps of 36 or less
§ 18 holes stableford for those with club handicaps of 37 – 54 (if you are not a club member we can give you a handicap for these competitions)
§ 9 holes card marking competition for those without handicaps who are ready to start marking cards.
There will be gross and nett prizes.
Matches: Organiser Di Valentine
GGG teams play matches against teams from neighbouring counties. The matches are fun to play in and give you experience of match play golf. Matches include some girls with higher handicaps. As many girls as possible will be given the opportunity to play in one or more of these.
The GGG 1st team play a round robin tournament with the other counties in the South West of England in August. In 2010 we won the tournament.
The Jenny May Day 16th October 2011 at Thornbury Golf Centre Organiser Olive French
This is GGG’s special end of season event for all girl golfers in the county. All girls with or without handicaps are welcome to attend this event. The day includes a Texas Scramble over 18 holes for handicap girls and coaching followed by a 9 hole Texas Scramble for pre handicap girls. After a meal the GGG AGM and prize giving takes place
GGG County Championship: Organiser Marion Jackson
This is our most prestigious event and is open to all girls with a CONGU handicap of 36 or less. There are competitions for the Gross Championship cup, the Nett Championship trophy, and stableford prizes, so girls of all levels of handicaps have plenty to play for.
Handicap Information
Girls without Handicaps
GGG aims to encourage and support beginners and improvers, and to give you the opportunity to have some fun with other girl golfers. When you first begin to play golf, you will probably be having lessons and hitting golf balls on a practice ground. Then comes your first game on a golf course with family or friends, or with other juniors. At this point, you can enjoy playing golf with other girls of your own age and standard by coming to some GGG events and entering card marking competitions.
Girls with Handicaps
As you begin to improve, you will want to get a handicap. The junior organiser or handicap secretary at your golf club will tell you how to go about this when your golf is ready. To get a club handicap you need to play 9 or 18 holes of golf with someone who already has a handicap, so that they can mark a card for you. They will write down every shot you take on every hole, (including any air shots!). The club manages these handicaps.
Ask about your club’s policy to get a handicap. Club handicaps can be from 37 – 54. Once you have a club handicap of 54 or less, you can enter the GGG Stablefords.
Then, as you improve, you will move on to a full CONGU handicap of 36 or less. CONGU is the national Body that manages handicaps of 36 or below for ladies. You can achieve this by reducing your club handicap to 36 by playing at your club following their guidelines in junior competitions or card marking, entering GGG competitions and Junior Opens. You may also submit three cards again in line with club regulations and marked by someone with a CONGU handicap. Your cards must meet the minimum score required by your club for the award of a 36 or below handicap.
Once you have a CONGU handicap you should talk to your club Junior Organiser about playing in Junior and Ladies Competitions, Junior Opens and doing Supplementary Cards in order to reduce your handicap.
Reporting Scores
All GGG competition results are submitted to your club. However it is the responsibility of the player to report all away scores to their club handicap secretary or junior organiser in line with club policy and as soon as you can. You must keep an up to date handicap certificate. This should be taken to every away competition.
Before you leave an away competition try to take a copy of your card and the course par, SS and CSS. If you are playing away on consecutive days you should play off the lowest handicap you think you are but never adjust your own handicap upwards.
If at any time you require more information about handicaps or help with any golfing matters please contact a GGG committee member who will try to help.
