Gloucestershire Girls Golf Inaugural Fund Raiser

This was organised by Olive French and held at Stinchcombe Hill Golf Club on Sunday 23rd October. It was a Texas Scramble with two adults and one junior in each team and held
in four divisions for silver, bronze juniors with 37-54 handicaps and prehandicappers so involving juniors of all ages and at all stages.
Families enjoyed the chance to play together and club members also enjoyed playing with a junior from their clubs.

We were very generously supported by Ladies Sections, Senior Sections and friends and parents of GGG so raised over £1200 to support our coaching programme and the Junior Team’s trip in 2012 to Launceston to defend their inter county junior championship.

There was a great atmosphere and we thank everyone who contributed to the success of the day both on and off the course.

Gloucestershire Girls win the South West Girls Inter County Match Week

The Gloucestershire Junior Team of captain, Alexandra Saunders (Bristol and Clifton)
Emma Barter (Thornbury), Rachel Evill (Minchinhampton Old), Jemima Gregson (Knowle),
Anna Russell (Cotswold Hills), Charlotte Stanford (Lilley Brook), Courtney Stone (Knowle),
and
Victoria Wakeley-Jones (Minchinhampton New) went to Honiton to defend their title against
five other south west counties. As Shelby and Bethan were selected for both the Girls and Ladies
British Opens they were not available so Gloucestershire fielded a younger and less experienced
team with five newcomers to this tournament. From the moment they met the team was united
and relaxed offering each other encouragement and support throughout.

The girls met on the day before the tournament for a practice round ably supported by their parents.
On the first day the girls beat Wiltshire 4-2 and on the second day beat
Dorset 3½ -2½
and
Somerset 4-2. On the final morning Gloucestershire beat Cornwall 4-2 so ensuring that they
would retain the trophy.
Devon won 4-2 on the final afternoon! All the girls demonstrated their golfing
skills and showed determination in all their matches. The girls were well supported by Di Valentine Team
Manager, their parents, Di Honey, Marion Jackson Karen Rix and Eve Clements who all helped in
the smooth running of Team Gloucestershire.

Congratulations go to Alexandra for her excellent captaincy and all the girls for their
team spirit and outstanding golf.

July Stableford at South Herefordshire GC July 24th 2011

Margaret Edwin and the Ladies at South Herefordshire made us most welcome on our first visit to this beautiful but demanding course. The Junior Captain Niall and his friend helped by ball spotting which is probably another first for GGG. Four girls competed on the par 3 course and had great fun and followed this by putting challenges where the putting improved with each task. Some girls had been given GGG club handicaps so joined the 37-54 competition tackling fifteen holes on the main course with confidence and a smile. The girls up to 36 handicap enthusiastically took on the main course. Sincere thanks go to the parents who card marked and encouraged the girls. Food from the bar menu proved popular and an enjoyable day ended with Margaret Edwin presenting the prizes.

As Somerset could only raise a team of seven some of our girls were disappointed not to play on a hot sunny day. The first five matches were evenly matched but we had to give 5 and 6 shots in the final matches. We were grateful to parents from both teams for helping to look for balls and for making sure all the girls had plenty to drink. The result was a 4-3 win for Gloucestershire. Emma Barter, Milly Davies, Ebonie Lewis and Charlotte Heeps won their matches with Caley McGinty, Hannah Evill and Courtney Stone also playing.
