Report from Captain Su Mallon

A sunny day at Rodway Hill Golf Club for the first outing for our 2nd team and in most cases the first match playing for the 2nd team, so a new, exciting and no doubt nervous outing for most of the team at the annual friendly match with W/H. The day started with the morning foursomes. A tough morning against a very strong team with Glos pairing Issy and Chloe bringing in a ½ point at the final stages of the morning pairings. The result from the morning was H/W 2 ½ to Glos  ½ all to play for in the afternoon.

The afternoon scratch singles were put out in handicap order. However, Glos being such a young team still meant that they would be playing against much lower handicaps, so a tough afternoon ahead.

First out was Chloe, who played Caitlin a strong opponent who plays off 6 and although Chloe played extremely well unfortunately lost her match. Next came Sophie who played Cath in a tight match with Sophie eventually winning 4/3, Issy, played Kirsten another strong opponent with Issy taking another win 4/3 so another point for Glos, Kate was to follow playing Naomi, a very close match both taking it turns to take the lead, Kate was to lose her match 2/1, however, Naomi after the match sought me out to say that Kate played a superb match and should be very proud of the way she played because it could have gone either way.  Sabrina played Lyn, a very experienced player and Sabrina was down throughout the match. Although, what a fighter Sabrina is and she managed to turn the game completely around to win 1 up on the 18th   a superb turn around which was witnessed by our number 1 supporter Robert Rawles. Finally, to Lorna who was invited to play having played so well in the County Champs and therefore had no experience of County Golf. Lorna was to play Grace, an exciting game which went to the wire, and one where Lorna not only played her first ever County singles match but going out last meant she had to play in front of quite an audience. Lorna proved that she has the makings of a County player as she kept her cool winning 1 up on the 18th.

This therefore meant that Glos had managed to turn the day around with the final score in the afternoon singles 4 / 2 to Glos. The final score of the day 4 ½ / 4 ½ so a friendly end to a very friendly and enjoyable day.

Congratulations Team you were brilliant!!
