Arriving as dawn broke, the view was of leaves blowing around everywhere and the greenkeepers working on the first tee. By the time we had the first ladies out on the course in extremely blustery, cold conditions we had shut the sliding door and had a visit from the greenkeeper, Marcus, to explain where trees and branches were down. But by the time Sue Johns was out on the course at 10, it was just the swirling leaves making life difficult as they hid the balls-all branches were removed and just the sad sight of the fallen trees remained.
Sun and extremely heavy showers continued until mid afternoon, coupled with winds, but it did quieten down slightly for the later players, but all came in feeling battered and windswept!
How this affected the 132 ladies is reflected in the scores and the changes to the CSS
When Sue presented the trophy to Annie, who was one of the earlier players, she commented that it gave us a feel for what our WINNING Gloucestershire team had been dealing with all week!
Grateful thanks were given to Filton for their support in organising the day, especially the greenkeepers, who ensured it was safe for us ; Jan, the club delegate, for starting her day at 7 alongside Sue and being there 12 hours later as we cleared up and Victoria, who welcomed and dealt with results input whilst Sue played and tested the weather conditions....
