6 COURSE CHALLENGE ...........

They only went and did it!

After an early start (alarm clocks ringing at 0300 hrs - well Jamie's was a little later as she'd only got into bed at 0100 hrs having been at a Pink concert in Cardiff!!!) the girls tee'd off at The Kendleshire GC at 0430 hrs and 17 hours later completed the 6 course challenge at Henbury GC.

Eating and drinking was carried out on the move because they were worried that if they sat down to have a break they wouldn't get up again - so with the support of the various ladies, club members and caddies at the different clubs, the girls were fed and watered whilst they were playing the various courses so that their energy levels were maintained throughout the day.

Watching the sunrise with the wildlife at The Kendleshire GC was amazing and seeing the course empty was also an experience never witnessed before! With the navigation help of Sue Johns and Lady Captain Brenda Oxford and their caddies, County Captain Su, Vicky and Chris, the girls completed the course in 2 hours 13 minutes with round scores of +2 (J), +4 (C) and +3 (A).

A reasonably quick hop down the motorway to The Bristol GC, they were met by their caddies, Barbara and Mary along with Cornish County player Liv and super fit ball spotter Sue who literally ran in front for the whole round!  Stage 2 of the challenge started and was completed in 2 hours 20 minutes with round scores of +7 (J), +6 (C) and +7 (A).

Onward to Long Ashton - Lady Captain Roz, Liz and Bethan were waiting together with bacon and sausage baps supplied by Nick and his team and they were quickly devoured whilst playing the first. 2 hours 30 minutes later with round scores of +9 (J), +9 (C) and -2 (A) and after a photocall with Chris Wood, the girls departed for Bristol & Clifton GC having completed half the challenge!

B&C’s Head Greenkeeper Matt Hawker had prepared the course well before the girls arrived and he was waiting to caddy along with Paula and County Vice Captain Sandra. After a quick fluid top-up, the girls were off on stage 4 of their challenge.  2 hours 20 minutes later they had completed course no.4 with scores of +7 (J), +12 (C) and +8 (A) that included an eagle on the 12th for Claudia.

With the motorway blocked, it was a quick re-route via Clifton to get to Shirehampton Park GC where the girls were met by Lady Captain Kelly and County Delegate Mary and GLCGA Chairman Debbie. Caddy duties were shared by Kelly who was suffering with sciatica and County junior Issy Hopkins, Debbie and Neil Casling and Claudia’s Uni mate from Surrey Emily and Liv from Cornwall. Shirehampton proved to be the most challenging course, both physically and mentally and the girls had to dig deep to get round the short but challenging course.  2 hours 10 minutes later with scores of +5 (J), +19 (C) and +14 (A) the girls could see the light at the end of the very long tunnel - onwards to Henbury GC to complete the 6 course challenge!!

Henbury Club Secretary Sue, Lady Captain Glenda plus County junior Ollie were waiting with trollies, energy drinks and haribo sweets ready to get the girls over the final hurdle.  Lots of supporters including County President Sue had gathered at Henbury to cheer the girls on and Junior Megan Bartlett decided to start her 18thbirthday celebrations off at Henbury (before going clubbing).  The fact that there were so many supporters walking with them helped the girls get around the course and even the 10th didn’t seem to daunt them and they were soon round the 18 holes with scores of +7 (J), +1 (C) and +11 (A) in 2 hours and 15 minutes finishing at 2130 hours.

An EPIC achievement that has raised £2,800.07 to-date and with more money promised.

Jamie, Claudia and Alex have achieved another great challenge and Gloucestershire Girls Golf are incredibly grateful to all three of you.  We regretfully accept your resignations whilst recognising what you have done over the past two years raising nearly £5,500 - a BIG THANK YOU - you are all awesome!

There was also a side competition, to guess the number of shots played by all the girls across the 6 courses and there were 2 people who guessed the exact number but there could be only one winner and Karen Rix’s name was drawn out of the hat - so a 4-ball voucher will be handed over to Karen shortly.
