Chipping Sodbury are Nett Team Champions 2021 at Ross-on-Wye
The Chipping Sodbury Team ended the day at Ross-on-Wye GC as very happy Nett Team Champions ....... on a very hot day reminiscent of the last time this Competition was played, pre-Covid, in 2019 at Lilley Brook. In view of the weather forecast, and with 2019 in mind, we took an early decision to switch the competition to Stableford instead of Strokeplay - to the relief of many players.
The day had not started so well though for hosts Ross-on-Wye GC, as Ladies Captain Sally Fycun was forced to Self-Isolate and withdraw their whole team (as close contacts) from the Competition! So, without our host team, we sent the first players out at 8.00 am and play continued throughout the day until the last team went out at 3.00 pm - a formidable turnout and played in very good spirits despite the rocky start and steadily rising temperatures.
Thankfully, all the players managed to complete the course albeit many of them were foxed by very fast and undulating greens.
We were all very well looked after with a team of Starters and Spotters organised by Jose Wilson who also hijacked her husband to act as Course Marshall. The course was in immaculate condition and the newly refurbished Clubhouse the source of some envy - and much appreciated at the end of a long and sticky day. Thank you Ross-on-Wye GC for hosting such an excellent event.
However, the final results revealed very worthy winners - the Chipping Sodbury team of Brenda St Paul, Tracy Waring, Fay Austen and Andrea Jenkins with 108 Stableford points; and Tracy Waring also snatched the Individual Prize with 40 points. Well done and many congratulations to the team pictured here with President Vicky Watkins who was finally able to present a Trophy to the Winners. The last word went to an ecstatic team member in the car park as everyone finally departed...."WE WON!!!!"
