Lady Marling & Coronation Medal Successes

54 Gloucestershire Ladies braved the 'wildlife' and the weather to play the 2020 Lady Marling & Coronation Medal Competitions at Minchinhampton Old Course, on Wednesday 2nd September.  The players started to tee off just after 8.00 am, in sunshine and amidst the glorious views across the Common populated by the many breeds of cattle which make it such an interesting and different golfing challenge.  Although the weather didn't continue so brightly, and rain took over 2 hours earlier than expected, everyone enjoyed being out again playing competitive golf in such a fascinating and unique environment.

Some good scores were achieved despite the lack of practice, and it was good to see some new names among the prizewinners (all of whom win Vouchers as well as the Trophies):

SILVER Division

Best Gross and Winner of the Scratch Cup: Tina Lewis of Cotswold Edge with a Gross score of 84.

Best Nett and Winner of the Lady Marling Challenge Cup: Lin Wright of Tracy Park, with Nett 70

Runner-up Nett for the Silver Coronation Medal: Dottie Chilton of Cotswold Edge, with Nett 72.

BRONZE Division:

Best Gross and Winner of the Graham Cup: Gill Miles of Minchinhampton Old Course with a Gross Score of 95

Best Nett and Winner of the Lady Marling Bronze Cup: Michele Brown of Minchinhampton Old Course with a Nett 67

Runner up Nett for the Bronze Coronation Medal: Carol Carr also of Minchinhampton Old Course with a Nett 69

STABLEFORD CONSOLATION COMPETITION:

Winner of the Lady Marling Replica Trophy: Michele Brown of Minchinhampton Old Course with 40 points;

(the Voucher ceded to a very worthy 5th place: Jennie Dwight of Minchinhampton New with 35 points).

As Minchinhampton GC is currently going through a process of unification of the two Clubs and three Courses, it has been a very special day for Minchinhampton Old Course in not only hosting a Competition based largely around the Lady Marling Trophies (Lady Marling was Lady President of Minchinhampton as well as being County President) but also seeing so many Old Course players among the winners.

We are extremely grateful to Minchinhampton GC for hosting the event and, in particular, Tom Sheffield and Eve Clements for their help and support.

Jane Rowell

Competition Secretary
