GGG - Handicap Information

Girls without Handicaps

GGG aims to encourage and support beginners and improvers, and to give you the opportunity to have some fun with other girl golfers. When you first begin to play golf, you will probably be having lessons and hitting golf balls on a practice ground. Then comes your first game on a golf course with family or friends, or with other juniors. At this point, you can enjoy playing golf with other girls of your own age and standard by coming to some GGG events and entering card marking competitions.

Girls with Handicaps

As you begin to improve, you will want to get a handicap. The Junior Organiser or Handicap Secretary at your golf club will tell you how to go about this when your golf is ready.

CONGU is the national body that manages handicaps for both men and ladies. To get a CONGU handicap you will need to submit cards totalling 54 holes of golf played at your home club. These can be made up of 18-hole cards or 9-hole cards (providing your club has a designated 9-hole course) usually played with someone who already has a handicap, or a responsible person acceptable to the Handicap Committee, so that they can mark the card for you. They will write down every shot you take on every hole (including any air shots!).

The maximum CONGU handicap is 54 and once you have a CONGU handicap, you can enter the GGG Stablefords. You will also be able to talk to your club Junior Organiser about playing in Junior and Ladies’ competitions, Junior Opens and the club’s procedure for submitting additional Supplementary Scores in order to reduce your handicap.

You will also be given a CDH number linking you to the Central Database of Handicaps system. This is very important and is needed on most entry forms. You should take the number to all events.
