An early tee off at 8.30 on a cold but bright morning at Exeter Golf Club, for the morning foursomes. Starting the proceedings was Jess and Megan playing Lauren and Cath. A steady start remaining all square until the 6th hole whereupon Jess and Megan got into their stride and went 1up on the 6th 2up on the 8th 3up on the 10th finally winning their match on the 14th 5-3. Following on was Issy and Kate playing the experienced pair of Cath and Annie, a tough match, Glos going 1 down on the 4th but gaining it back by the 7th going 1up on the 9th and then back to all square on the 10th. Glos then going 2up by the 14th. However, Cornwall were not to be beaten and took back the match back to all square by the 17th so all to play for on the 18th with such great golf played throughout this match it will be no surprise that the match was halved. The final pairing was Izzy and Lorna, playing Caroline and Penny. Izzy and Lorna were on fire going 2up by the 3rd and never relinquishing the lead and were 7 up at the turn, 8 up at the 10 and winning 9-7 fabulous golf with eagles, and birdies all the way. The final morning score 2 ½ to ½ .
We needed 2 ½ points to win. Could this be the year Gloucestershire takes the prize?
Afternoon Singles
The afternoon singles kicked off with Megan playing Lauren. It took a little while for Megan to find her groove finding herself 2 down at the 5th. However, Megan kicked up a gear and by the 7th was back to all square and then 3up at the 14th Megan was never to relinquish the lead and won her match 2-1. Next up was Issy who was playing Louise. Issy was 2up by the 5th and was never to let that lead go finally taking the match on the 17th 2-1. Elin was next to play and was playing Cornwall’s best player Kira. Elin had not managed to play the course before and found it hard to get into her rhythm so although she played well was not able to match the formidable force of Kira and lost her match on the 12th. Chloe was next to play and she played the experienced Caroline and although Chloe fought hard, she was not able to compete against the experience of Caroline and was to lose her match on the 13th. Izzy was next to play and was up against Annie. Izzy was still on fire from her morning round and very soon took the lead and was 4 up at the turn 5 up at 10 and took the match 7-5. Jess was the last to play and was up against the formidable Cath, a very tough and experienced player. The match remained all square until the 5th whereupon Cath sank a 20ft putt to take the lead and once she had found those putting boots was never to relinquish that lead. Although Jess fought hard and very nearly took back the game Cath was never going to let that happen and eventually won the match on the 17th.
The final score the afternoon singles 3 -3
Final score of the match 5 ½ to 3 ½ Gloucestershire had done it we had won the shield!!!
