South West Junior Inter-Counties Day 2

The weather forecast was sun and 24 degrees, but we were on the tee in rain! Typical English weather and misinformed on the local news! So it was on with the waterproofs again .... and umbrellas up!

Luckily it blew through Dorset and it soon became drier although the gusty winds didn't help the golf too much!!

We were facing Wiltshire in the morning with Mariella, Millie and Rosie going out in singles and having to give 7, 5, 12 shots respectively. In the foursomes the shot position was even greater, with Neve and Jasmine having to give 16 shots and Taylor and Poppy having to give 15 shots.

Giving shots, as we reminded the girls, was making sure it was a level playing field and the girls who they were giving shots to weren't as experienced golfers as they were.

We got Mike Jeffery to do a face-to-face manifesting session and the girls then went out and played their matches. It was always going to be a challenging morning, but the girls did well and we halved the match.

Mariella and Millie lost 1 down, but Rosie won 4&3. In the foursomes matches, Neve & Jasmine halved their game and Taylor & Poppy won 2 up.

A good result bearing in mind all the shots we had to give and it was in for lunch before we took on hosts Dorset.

In the afternoon, we mixed it up a bit with Neve, Rosie and Frances all playing singles and Mariella & Poppy, and Millie & Ezme playing foursomes. Neve lost her match 4&3, but was making a comeback after a challenging start. Rosie won on the last 1up and Frances had a convincing win 5&4.

In the foursomes matches, Mariella & Poppy won 5&4 and Millie & Ezme won 3&2.

A very satisfying afternoon's work!

We're lying in 2nd place on the leaderboard with just Cornwall to play tomorrow. We're up for this match and we know that it's likely going to be a difficult one as Cornwall have mostly high handicapped girls, so we'll no doubt be giving lots of shots, but the team is ready and are looking forward to a great final match in this year's SW Junior Inter-Counties.

Let's hope the weather forecast is correct tomorrow and we do get the sun that we should have seen today and let's go out and do our best - Cmon girls just one last push!
