Going into Day 3 we were lying in 2nd place behind Devon and we knew that we needed a win to retain the trophy, so we planned our team very carefully knowing that Cornwall had some very high handicappers who they would be playing in at least the foursomes matches.
The atmosphere was great going into Day 3, with lots of positivity, helped by Mike doing a bit of manifestation on the putting green.
We sadly had to say goodbye to Molly (our Match Manager) as she was flying off to America in the early hours of Thursday, to start the next part of her life journey at University. Big thanks to Molly for supporting me and the team throughout the year and wishing you all the luck in the world in America!
Our Singles were Taylor, Rosie and Frances with Taylor in a scratch match, Rosie having to give 5 shots and Frances an immense 13 shots!!
Taylor's match was close all the way to the 18th, with her losing to a 15 foot birdie putt. Rosie had a challenging day with her opponent whizzing around the course - don't think I've ever seen such a fast player, but her match finished on the 11th unfortunately. Frances giving so many shots, was solid, but when you have to give shots on so many holes, including the last 2 holes, it was always going to be tough and she headed down the 18th 1 dn. She needed to win the last hole, but it was not to be and she lost 2 dn. Even though the girls were disappointed to lose their matches, they recovered well and were out supporting the foursomes pairings who also had to give a huge number of shots.
Mariella and Poppy had to give 12 shots and were up all the time and closed out their match on the 15th (4&3) and Millie and Ezme who had to give 15 shots closed out their match on the 16th (4&2).
Whilst we knew that a loss would not do it for us, the girls whilst disappointed were able to take away so many positives from the tournament.
Team Gloucestershire, led by Neve and Frances, you have been an absolute delight to be with these last four days. You have been incredible ambassadors for the County and I am so proud of the way you have conducted yourselves on and off the course. We have received so many compliments from people who were at the event - commenting on how incredibly well you all played, your behaviour, the way you support one another, the way you interact with your competitors and other county team members and the smiles you have even when results don't go your way.
You are all stars and I am sure all of you will have learned so much and our three rookies, Ezme, Jasmine and Poppy you were incredible, embracing everything we asked of you. Team Gloucestershire you certainly kept Molly, Sandra Gibbs and myself entertained both on and off the course!
We may have come up short in 2025, but 2026, when we host the event at Bristol & Clifton GC between 2 - 6 August will hopefully be a different result.
A big thank you to our President Alison Kelly who supported us all during the event, to all the incredible parents, who managed the logistics of transporting the girls trolleys and golf clubs to and from the golf club (don't know what we would have done without you!) and for following the girls and keeping us updated on their scores on the Whatsapp group. You have been invaluable!
And to Dorset Golf and Broadstone GC - thank you for putting on a fantastic event - the admin was great, the course was challenging but stunning and the weather - well that was a bit up and down but the girls survived and overall we had an absolute blast!
Thank you to Neve, Frances, Ezme, Jasmine, Mariella, Millie, Poppy, Rosie and Taylor for being such a great team.
Bring on 2026 and let's make some more memories on home turf - we've got this girls - let's look forward to next year and be ready to do battle again.
