Minchinhampton Old GC

Match reports are posted on the News and Results page.

The matches are a great way for our girls to meet other girls from neighbouring Counties and play new courses, and the Lady Vets' match provides an opportunity for the girls to learn from some of the more experienced lady golfers in the county...

Eligibility

Girls with an active handicap index are eligible to play in all matches, although available girls with the lowest handicaps will be prioritised for selection in matches played against other Counties i.e. all our matches other than the matches against the Lady Vets and the U16 County Boys.

Even if you think your handicap is too high, you can still be considered to play and represent Gloucestershire Girls, as girls lower than you may not be available or may drop out, and we will need to bring in other girls who are available to play.

Availability

Girls will be emailed to determine their availability for the matches a month before the event.  As soon as responses are received, we will select the team and will publish it, including a couple of reserves.

If, for any reason, girls who have indicated they are available to play in matches find themselves unable to do so, then please email me at janicemsaunders1@gmail.com as soon as possible so that other girls who are available can be brought in to play.

Selection

The team plus 2 reserves will be selected at least three weeks before the match, and the girls selected will be emailed to confirm match details, kit requirements and any post-match meal dietary requirements.  Replies will be needed within 48 hours, so the finalised team can be posted on this website before the match date.

There are no match or course fees to pay, and the cost of the post-match meals is funded by GGG - please note that team members are expected to stay for the post-match meal and for any speeches.

Kit

As you are representing Gloucestershire County, you will be expected to wear County colours, i.e. white polo shirt with Gloucestershire logo, navy or black trousers/shorts/skorts and a burgundy half-zip top, county jumper or county sweatshirt.  Most of you have been involved in the County Academy coaching over the years, so you should have a white polo shirt, and many of you have a burgundy half-zip top or a burgundy hoodie.  If you do not have the appropriate kit, then please let me know, and we will arrange for you to borrow a polo shirt or a burgundy top for the match.

Post-Match

After each match, the teams will have a meal together - team players are expected to stay for the post-match meal.  No change of clothes is required, but it is advisable to bring spare clothes in case of poor weather.  If you find that you are no longer able to stay for the meal, please email me ( janicemsaunders1@gmail.com) as soon as possible.  If you let us know the day before or the day of the match, then we will ask you to cover the cost of the meal you are missing, as GGG will still be charged for the meal, as we have to submit numbers to the golf club's catering team 2 days before the event.

These matches are a good way of making new friends from other counties and allow you to play courses which you might not have experienced.  Matches also give you the experience of different golf formats and will prepare you for playing team golf if you have ambitions to represent Gloucestershire County at a more advanced level with the Ladies Squad.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss anything to do with the forthcoming matches, then please get in touch with me by telephone - 07770 533238 or by emailing me: janicemsaunders1@gmail.com

I look forward to catching up with you at some of the 2025 matches.

South West Junior INTER-COUNTIES Tournament

3-5 August - Bristol & clifton GC

This year, we are hosting the SW Junior Inter-Counties Tournament at Bristol & Clifton Golf Club, and with all our local knowledge, we are hoping to do well.  Last year, we travelled to Dorset, and although we had a great tournament with everyone playing their hearts out, we came away in 4th place.  The team that represented Gloucestershire were the lowest handicapped team at the tournament, which is a handicapped format tournament, and we were penalised for having to play other teams with higher handicaps and having to give so many shots.  This year however, the format has been changed, and the three singles matches will be played off Scratch and the two foursomes matches will be played off a maximum individual playing handicap of 18.

This year, the tournament will take place between 3-5 August with a practice round on Sunday, 2 August.  The tournament will start on Monday morning with Counties playing against each other in a round robin matchplay format.  Five matches will be played in each session - 2 foursomes matches and 3 singles matches with two team members rested for each session.

We will be taking a squad of 9 girls, with 7 girls playing in each match, with 2 rested.  There is a playing handicap index maximum of 14.2 (based on a maximum playing handicap of 18 at B & C GC)  for this tournament.

The following selection criteria will be used to select the squad.

Criteria for Selection:

  • The four lowest handicapped junior golfers available to play
  • GGG Captain and Vice Captain, if not one of the four lowest handicapped golfers, and meets the HI criteria for the event
  • be a member of either the High Performance Squad or a County Academy Programme (CAP) Junior Squad, and demonstrate attendance at the training sessions
  • Plus two-five picks selected by members of the GGG Committee based on girls' age (14 and over), current form, feedback from County Coaches and girls' involvement and commitment to GGG by competing in qualifying GGG competitions and matches up to the end of June.

The squad will be officially announced at the end of June 2026.
