On a bright Sunday in Honiton, and spurred on by Team Europe who were going into battle a little later, Gloucestershire's 'Little Spots' won the Wessex Salver trophy by 14 points. With 6 out of 8 scores to count in the stableford format, the girls played beautifully and with determination to win on a well maintained course.
Gloucestershire, captained by B&C's Poppy Rowe, won both the Division 1 and Division 2 categories, and when combined, they were 14 points ahead of their nearest rival Dorset.
Poppy who was out in our 2nd group came in with 37 points and Scarlett her sister, just pipped her with 38 points - a bit of sibling competitiveness on the golf course!
It was great to witness such a cohesive team who fully supported one another and they conducted themselves in an incredibly well mannered and friendly way throughout the event.
Thanks should go to DevonGolf and Hannah Stephens (DevonGolf's Girls' Team Manager) for organising the event, to Honiton GC and their staff for presenting a great course, wonderful food and fantastic hospitality and last but never least to the parents who chauffeured the girls to Honiton and supported them on the fairways, even though they wanted to be in the clubhouse watching the Ryder Cup! Thanks also to Ezme and her dad for supporting the team.
Well done Girls, you did Gloucestershire proud.
